By primarily relying on pharmacology for solutions, the trend seems to lean more towards chronicling disorders rather than resolving or preventing them.

I believe that within each person exists a self-healing drive that seeks to restore balance during both physical and psychological crises. Genuine healing, in my view, begins by addressing situations in a comprehensive, personal, and individualized manner. I am committed to aiding the inherent radiance within individuals to dissolve the issues that obscure them and distance them from health.

I endeavor to perceive and comprehend beyond diagnostic labels, recognizing that symptoms might be the individual’s way of coping with the surrounding reality. I am deeply interested in delving into the reality the person is experiencing and understanding what triggers discomfort, symptoms, or crises.

A Brief Account of My History

A Brief Account of My History

Born in Spain, with a feeling of being a global citizen, I’m a seeker of experiences, truth, knowledge, and transformation. Following a somewhat turbulent adolescence, I began studying economics at the Autonomous University of Madrid. Over time, I discovered that this path didn’t ignite my passion. After completing my studies, I embarked on a quest to find alternative ways of living that would make me feel better as a person and more useful to others. I started practicing meditation, tai chi, and qigong, exploring alternative medicines like traditional Chinese medicine or macrobiotic nutrition, and had my initial encounters with humanistic psychotherapy.

It was during a training program for international cooperation work where my calling for medicine was ignited. However, due to my academic situation, I couldn’t commence studies in Spain, leading to a lengthy journey: to begin, I relocated to Argentina, enrolling at the University of La Plata. Later, I returned to Spain and after a few years at the Complutense University of Madrid, I completed my studies at the University of Santiago de Compostela.

Throughout those years, I encountered numerous personal challenges, which prompted me to embark on an in-depth psychotherapeutic process. This journey helped me confront my fears, inner demons, weaknesses, and discover my strengths to continue progressing.

In the final years of my medical studies, I pursued training in body-oriented and bioenergetic psychotherapy, transpersonal psychology, gestalt, and the enneagram. After graduating as a physician, the decision regarding my specialization remained. Despite considering various alternatives, psychiatry seemed the field where I could contribute the best and provide a more meaningful service. I moved to the Canary Islands to specialize at the Dr. Negrín Hospital in Gran Canaria. Upon completion, I’ve been working as a psychiatrist in both the public and private healthcare sectors in Spain.

My Approach and Differentiation

My Approach and Differentiation

I consider pharmacology as a useful tool that can sometimes alleviate symptoms, always aiming to maintain the minimum effective dose and only for as long as necessary. In cases of chronic treatments, I advocate for responsible medication use, taking into account personal circumstances, the balance between beneficial effects and side effects, and the patient’s preferences.

I advocate for the four principles of medical ethics: autonomy, beneficence, justice, and non-maleficence. I believe in the patient’s capacity to decide what’s best for them. Based on this, I provide advice, recommendations, and establish individualized therapeutic plans. I put my knowledge, experience, and work at the service of individuals who wish to discover their own inner light, with the aim that eventually, they can navigate with the least therapeutic assistance possible.

Medication Adjustments / Withdrawals

I strongly believe that the widespread medicalization of society tends to chronicle certain disorders rather than resolve them, causing long-term side effects and, in some cases, generating a feeling of not being oneself under the prescribed treatment.

The reasons prompting a person to want to reduce or withdraw their treatment can be diverse, but I consider them always respectable and deserving of attention. The balance between benefits and risks is an important aspect to consider in the case of prolonged treatments and should always be evaluated.

Tapering or discontinuing treatments can be lengthy and intricate processes that sometimes require extended periods and may reactivate symptoms, old or new, which can be difficult to tolerate. These processes necessitate continuous and personalized monitoring.

Harm Reduction

I offer a service focused on preparation, guidance, and care for individuals wishing to experiment with consciousness-expanding substances. My approach revolves around minimizing risks and maximizing benefits. I provide guidance on the suitability of their consumption, offer therapeutic support during the experience, and conduct integration sessions afterward.

A key aspect involves attention to prior pharmacological treatments, which might interact riskily with these substances. I offer guidance on their adjustment or withdrawal, as well as potential resumption if needed, always with the goal of ensuring the individual’s safety.

While I do not endorse the use of illegal substances, my commitment lies in minimizing risks and promoting safe experiences for those who choose to explore them. My work is centered on advising, providing evidence-based information, and mitigating risks associated with these experiences.
